Why everything in a movie or a book sound stupid when it’s in french?

Movies ok, because it’s dubbed, but in a book? I am reading Divergent in french, I’m almost done, and I feel like what the people says in the book sounds very stupid when it’s in french. And I didn’t have this feeling while reading the book in english.

The french version made me feel like if I was reading Twilight. And I wanted to cry.
